Book Review: Dark Force Rising

Dark Force Rising
Dark Force Rising by Timothy Zahn

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The second book in a trilogy must be tough to write. As a writer, you want to move the story along, while providing action and suspense, yet keep the epic moments for the last book. I wanted to give this book 4 stars; I really did. I found the end of the book enjoyable, but the middle 300 pages tended to drag along. I'm hoping the last book in the series makes reading this book worth it.

My favorite quotes:

"I don’t think anyone ever goes into a war without the nagging feeling that there might have been some other way. Even when every other way has already been tried and hasn’t worked."

"Concentration, focus, long-term thinking—those are the qualities that separate a warrior from a mere flailing fighter."

"Refusing to be intimidated, after all, didn’t mean deliberately asking for trouble."

"Permanent debt—the oldest form of covert slavery in the galaxy."

"For if you allow your justice to be forgotten, you will be forced to repeat the same lessons again and again.”

"Machines and societal constructs do not define a culture’s maturity, Jedi Skywalker. Maturity is defined solely by the understanding and use of the Force."

"Han shook his head. "'Never tell me the odds...Besides, you never know when the odds are going to change.'"
